In light of Microsoft’s extra effort to improve Windows 10 for tablets, long-time Android supporter Samsung seems to be having a change of heart. After years of embracing Android as the de facto operating system for its tablets, the Korean tech giant is now considering installing Windows 10 on many more Samsung devices over the coming years.

Eric McCarty, vice president of mobile product marketing for Samsung Electronics America, reveals the company’s plan to increase the number of Samsung tablets running Windows in the future. In fact, Samsung has already started the shift with its new tablets running Windows 10 announced at the Mobile World Congress 2017. At the event, the electronics titan unveiled 3 tablets, two of which are running Windows 10: the 10- and 12-inch models of the Samsung Galaxy Book.

The Galaxy Book is expected to compete with Microsoft’s Surface lineup as Samsung’s executives vowed to invest long term in products running Windows 10. According to McCarty, Samsung intends to squeeze Microsoft’s operating system into about 60% of its devices.

It is safe to assume that the growing momentum of 2-in-1 devices these days has spurred Samsung’s interest in Windows 10. Microsoft kicked off its 2-in-1 push in 2012 when the Redmond giant launched the Surface RT. Although OEMs were at first reluctant to support the hybrid tablet, Microsoft worked hard to improve 2-in-1 devices and build more Surface models.

The Surface lineup’s huge success is also attracting other companies, thanks to the dual functions of these devices that double as a laptop and a tablet. Samsung is not the least of those companies that have seen such an opportunity to offer laptop and tablet capabilities in a single device. Therefore, expect the company to pump more cash in Windows 10 tablets in the years to come.
