Recent Windows 10 Builds Cause Black Screen Issues

Microsoft has been releasing new Insider builds at a faster pace lately. In fact, Insiders on the Fast ring received three new builds in just a week.

The new builds don’t include any new features, as their main focus is sharpening the system before the official release of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Therefore, Insiders can only find certain bug fixes and system improvements in recent releases.

However, even though the main purpose of these builds is to make the system better, there are some additional problems on top. Namely, one Insider recently said on Microsoft forums that he’s been experiencing black screen issues from build 16288:

Unfortunately, nobody had a proper solution for this issue. So, in case you’ve experienced it as well, we can’t give you a confirmed solution. We can only recommend you our article about black screen issues in Windows 10.

“The last three builds, when I’ve tried to update, have booted to a black screen with cursor, after the first update reboot. I’ve just tried making a UPP ISO and clean installing the 16294 build from a flash drive, and the installer immediately boots to the same black screen with cursor. In either scenario I quickly see a window pop up and disappear before no further progress is made. Then I have to hard reboot. In the upgrade version, it gives me a Safe_OS installation phase failure error.

Any suggestions of more logs to provide or solutions would be appreciated.”

On the positive side, this is the most serious issue caused by recent Preview builds we’ve managed to find so far. This could mean Microsoft is on a good way to provide a stable major update to users. Something that hasn’t been exactly the case with previous major updates for Windows 10.
