Steam games have been supporting various PC controllers for a very long time. But this is limited to controllers built for PC only. However, Valve plans to change that, as it introduced support for PS4’s DualsShock 4 Controller, which is currently available in the beta version of the Steam client.
- CPU, RAM and Network limiter with hot tab killer
- Integrated with Twitch, Discord, Instagram, Twitter and Messengers directly
- Built-in sound controls and custom music
- Custom color themes by Razer Chroma and force dark pages
- Free VPN and Ad blocker
- Download Opera GX
Valve introduced DualShock 4 Controller support to steam with the latest update for its Steam beta client. Here’s which updates the latest version of Steam Clent contains:
- “Added Steam Configurator support for PS4 Dual Shock Controller. Note that this is a beta release. Enable in Big Picture settings Add/Test Controller settings. When enabled, PS4 controllers will have access to the same sort of customisation/configuration support as Steam Controllers, including native API support.
- PS4 Controllers using this system can map the trackpad, gyro, buttons, etc. to keyboard, mouse, or x-input outputs and can make use of action sets, touch menus, radial menus, and so forth.
- Added New Mode – Joystick Mouse. This is a joystick based mouse control useful for stick based controllers.
- Added default PS4 templates.
- Added software calibration for non-Steam controller based IMUs to counter for gyro drift.
- Configuration Browser can now be toggled to show all available controller types rather than the default of the in-use controller type.
- Configurations can now be marked as ‘Unique’ to a specific controller. This configuration will only be applied to that controller for that user’s account. By default, all controllers of a specific type will share a configuration unless marked as Unique.
- Big Picture now supports PS4 controller glyphs when using Steam Configurator support.”
It was already known that DualShock support is being prepared for Steam. For now, only users of the beta client are able to try it, but it will eventually arrive to everyone in the future. But we don’t know the exact date.

By introducing DualShock support to Steam, Valve follows Microsoft’s model, which already made the Xbox One Controller usable on Windows 10 PCs. We don’t know if Valve’s decision is related to Microsoft’s, but as multi-platform gamepads become more and more popular, supporting one of the two main console’s gamepad is an obvious step.
We don’t know if Valve will do the same thing with the Xbox One Controller in the future, but we’re sure there are many gamers who would like this to happen.
