More than two years ago, at the Build 2012 event, we’ve seen Microsoft talk about such upcoming apps at the time as Dropbox, ESPN, PayPal and others. However, now, in 2014, there’s a pretty big one that is still missing on the Windows Store.

At the moment, there isn’t an official PayPal app on the Windows Store for Windows 8 or Windows RT users, and according to the actual situation, it won’t even come in the near future. Owners of Windows devices have long been asking for such an app to get released on the Windows Store, but the single step that has been taken is the fact that PayPal APIs have been made available for developers in order to integrate PayPal payments inside their apps. Here’s what one frustrated user is saying about the absence of this app:

There are currently apps on the Windows Store that can transform Windows 8 tablets into credit card terminals, but an official PayPal title would be much more suitable, of course. Many are still looking for the official American Express Windows 8 app to get released, as well. And here’s why I don’t think an official PayPal app is coming in the near future, as official PayPal representatives have confirmed this, according to a PayPal user:

I would like to see a Windows 8 app with the functionality of the iPad app. My request is that it would run on Windows 8.x and Windows RT devices. I’m looking at moving from another payment system over, but need this app to work in Windows 8 to minimize costs.

But now that Windows 8’s market share is slowly growing, I’m really confident that we will see more and more Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 tablets to the market, so PayPal would only have to win with an official app. I’ve also reached out to them and will update the article when further info will be provided.

I just found out there is no plan when I talked to support to make a Paypal Here App for Windows 8.  I recently bought a Surface tablet that I think it would work great on for point of sale at my events.  I couldn’t afford an iPad and my only other option is my iPhone.  The iPhone’s problem is it is very small to have people sign on.  A tablet would be much better choice.  I hope that PayPal changes it’s mind and finds a way to make an App for Windows based tablets or set up a internet webpage that works just like the iPhone Paypal Here App so I can use it to do business on my tablet.
