If you largely depend on Microsoft Outlook for your mailing needs, you are going to enjoy Microsoft’s latest announcement. Users can now set Outlook.com as their default email app as per the latest Chrome 92 update and Microsoft Edge on their latest update.

  • This feature is compatible with both Windows 10 and 11.No major changes to the Outlook app are expected. You may require an updated web browser to take advantage of this feature fully.

Users may also be required to use the official PWA in the browser for better efficiency.

Powered by protocol handler

This new feature is powered by a URL protocol handler that ensures such functionality is installed. If other PWAs come later, the features would remain.

In preparation for Windows 11

The release of Windows 11 is just around the corner and Microsoft is expected to finalize development plans in the coming weeks. You can enable Outlook as your default email app then alter the configurations when navigating the settings app.

The settings app has also received a minor facelift as the rest of the operating system, making it easier for users to navigate.

Mail app remains unchanged

Although the mail app will now be available on Windows 11, its features remain unchanged. Some may argue its features are basic and alternatives perform better on Windows devices.

In the recent past, users had complained of disappearing emails on Outlook, and Microsoft came up with software to remedy the situation. Still, some users find it highly reliable with its features as it is.

Users who rely on Outlook as their primary mailing app are advised to run up-to-date browsers and enable functionality when loading the PWA.
