Plenty of Windows users are on the verge of losing access to their online cloud storage. Microsoft encourages users to upgrade their devices to the latest software.
With the new upgrade the OnerDrive app will no longer sync with Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 as from March 1, 2022. Users are therefore encouraged to make the upgrade to avoid losing access to important files.
No more updates
Millions of users still make use of Windows 7 and 8 despite them being outdated, there will be a great shift soon as users are now compelled to make the move.
As from January 1, 2022, Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 will no longer receive any updates for the OneDrive application. The aim is to ensure that Microsoft gets to focus their resources on new technologies and operating systems.
On March 1, 2022 personal OneDrive desktop applications running on Windows 7,8 and 6.1 operating systems will stop syncing to the cloud.

The change will affect businesses differently, Microsoft’s support for the OneDrive desktop application for business will be aligned with the Windows support lifecycle as from January 1, 2022.
As for Windows 8 and Windows 7, they will continue to receive extended support until January10, 2023. Although Windows 8 support ended on January 12, 2016. The lack of support means that users no longer get important updates that shield their devices from the latest cyber threats.
Users are encouraged to upgrade their devices to either Windows 11 or 10 to avoid any of these setbacks. However, it is worth noting that many of the devices running on Windows 7 or 8 are not compatible.
The devices may not meet the requirements in terms of the hardware system. Therefore, making it impossible to make the upgrade.
