Office Online Extension Coming To Microsoft Edge

If you’re a big fan of Office Online and also a die-hard Chrome user, then chances are you have heard of and used the Office Online extension for the Google web browser. That same extension is coming to Microsoft Edge in the near future.

The Office Online extension makes it easier for users to gain access to their documents and to create new documents on the fly. We expect this extension to be a direct port of the Chrome version so it should work exactly the same.

Hopefully, Microsoft decides to add some form of Cortana integration to differentiate it from its Chrome counterpart. The extension can be downloaded right now but it doesn’t have much use so we’d recommend staying away until Microsoft has finished all the important work.

Should this extension work exactly the same as the Google Chrome counterpart, then it should be possible for users to gain access to their Office Online files from anywhere without fuss,

In all honesty, there’s nothing overly interesting about the Office Online extension other than making it possible for users to jump to their documents anywhere on the web, whenever they feel the need to. One could call it an extravagant link to Office Online since the extension brings the user directly to the webpage.

Recently the software giant announced the availability of Office Online Server (OOS), the direct successor to Office Web Apps Server 2013. Furthermore, Microsoft also made some changes to Office 365 to make the service more accessible to the visually impaired.

These are key changes to keep ahead of the competition, especially now since there’s an interesting open source alternative to Office 365 known as Open 365. Not the most original name, but then again, it is open source so this is expected.
