Notifications On Action Center In Windows 10 Get Visual Improvements

Along with the Start Menu, Windows 10’s action center is the feature that received most changes in the latest build 14328 for Windows 10. Microsoft changed everything, from its entry point to the way alerts and notifications are displayed. Let’s take a closer look at the revamped Action Center in Windows 10 Preview build 14328.

The first thing you probably notice as soon as you turn on your computer for the first time after installing the new build is the re-designed and re-located Action Center icon. The icon was moved to the far right side of the taskbar and sports slightly different looks now.

When you receive a notification, the Action Center will just show you the sender’s logo. This is far less distracting than old Notification Alerts, as you can now work normally without being interrupted by unwanted notifications. The number of pending notifications will also show on the icon, so you’ll always know how many notifications you’ve received.

From now on, notifications you receive in your Action Center will be grouped. That means that the Action Center will show just one icon for notifications from each app instead of showing every individual notification as was the case before. This is indeed a refreshing change since users were often confused with the seemingly overwhelming number of notification. With the new arrangement, you can organize your notifications easily.

Another important addition is Cortana notifications in the Action Center. From now on, whenever Cortana has something to tell you, it will appear in the Action Center. The new Cortana integration works perfectly with Cortana’s new ability to set Photo reminders, as images of reminders will also show in the Action Center.

And finally, the Action Center in Windows 10 Preview build 14328 received some new customization options. You can now easily re-arrange quick actions in the Action Center as well as add new and remove old ones.

To customize quick actions, go to Settings > System > Notifications & actions. From here, you can easily re-arrange quick actions by dragging in the replica of quick actions from your Action Center. If you want to add new quick actions to your Action Center, just select “Add or remove quick actions” and choose which notifications you want to appear in your Action Center.

One interesting change related to quick actions that Microsoft highlighted is the improved Wi-Fi quick action. Namely, when you click on the Wi-Fi quick action in the Action Center, it will automatically show you the list of available networks instead of showing On/Off buttons.

We see a lot of interface changes and new features in recent Windows 10 Preview builds which can only mean that Microsoft is warming up to release the Anniversary Update this summer. With this in mind, we should expect even more UI improvements and new features to arrive with the coming Preview builds.
