Notepad Gets Dpi Improvements In The Windows 10 Anniversary Update

James Clarke, who works at Windows, posted a tweet today regarding the DPI awareness of Notepad for the Anniversary Update in Windows 10. You might think that with all the new apps launching on the market, suitable for taking notes, Notepad will become a thing of the past. However, to many people’s surprise, it is still one of the most popular note taking services in the store.

Now since it’s dynamically DPI aware, Notepad is compatible with all the displays in high resolution. People who work with multiple monitors can now see that the app has a good quality on all the displays and resolutions.

James also mentioned the fact that Adobe Illustrator was also scaled to dynamic DPI a while ago and it is currently running flawless on the latest update for Windows 10, the Anniversary Update. The company also posted more information about these changes in a blog post.

There, Peter Felts explains in an article how display scaling improves the apps and what other changes occur in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update. He mentions that Microsoft was interested in improving the display-scaling feature in Windows 10 and especially with their latest upgrade. Initially, lots of apps were perfectly scaled inside Windows, but there were other third-party apps that encountered lots of issues when running on a desktop, which included showing blurry or badly sized displays.

However, fixing display scaling on Windows is not that easy, since there is a real challenge there. Many apps running on Windows request upon launching information from the system regarding the size, the display, the display scale, the font and many other details. Once they get the information, they cache it and never change it. This is why Microsoft had to send the apps the right information upon changing the DPI.
