I have always loved Volvo cars I guess because my grand father (God rest his soul) had one and I used to enjoy seeing him clean it and wax it. Ooh and the rides were heavenly.
So my love for them has always driven me to follow up on new developments in their technology, what was added because am hoping one day am going to own one to honor a promise i made.
Recently Volvo unveiled a revolutionary technology that automatically applies the brakes on the car when a cyclist swerves infront of the vehicle’s path.
This feature uses a camera and radar guided equipment to lower speed and then slam on the brakes if the driver doesn’t react quick enough.
This road safety tech will feature in cars come this may as per the announcement made by the Swedish firm at the Geneva Motor Show.
Doug Speck from Volvo Car Group said:
How does this car relate to a country full of Motorists (boda bodas) like Uganda?
I see a lot of unexpected breaks and actually accidents which this technology is trying to avoid as per this statement,”We keep moving towards our long-term vision to design cars that do not crash.”
Our motorists are unruly and many have no idea about traffic rules. If i brought this car because i love the technology, i will have to drive it at night because that is when i will except less motorists and thus less braking.
According to this technology if a cyclist swerves in front of the car and is collision is imminent a loud warning is provided instantly and lights flash on the windscreen. The computer reacts in the blink of an eye and as a last resort full braking power is applied to avert an accident.
I don’t see myself buying this car yet even if i like the tech specs. What do you think?
